Have you found your Thomas Manners yet? My grandfather was a William James Manners (born 1869?) and on his marriage certificate his father is given as 'Thomas Manners'. Some mystery surrounds WJ Manners as I can't find his birth details! Census 1891 and 1901 give his birthplace as Greenwich - but can't locate on 1871 or 1881 census records. Quite possible his Dad Thomas could have been born 1841.
Do you have any further details
