My third great grandmother was Wilhelmine Mantei, born 24 November 1822 in Grüfier, Filehne, Posen, Prussia. She was the daughter of Johann Christoph Mantei and Anna Maria Schulz. She married Christoph Friedrich August Loose (who was born in nearby Ehrbardorf on 2 December 1820) around 1843 and they came to the United States in 1883, settling in Muscatine, Iowa. Both of these villages were in Northern Posen, which, at that time, had a large German population. The area is part of present day Poland.

Steve
