The Indian Fairy Tale!!! This story is way over 150 years old. I have heard about and have read letters saying that the Mantooths were Cherokee Indian. My Grandmother Zora Mae Frazier related this story to my Mother and it was evidently handed down from Lydia Mantooth Frazier. My great grand mother Eliza Frazier was born in 1852 and she was evidently a believer. I have a letter somewhere from a descendent of Arminta Frazier Pearce (my grandmother's aunt, Eliza's sister) relating the Indian Story. I don't believe it after much research. The only thing I can determine is that my line was dirt poor and seemed to have some kind of social problem that caused them to be considered different. They had very straight black hair, very fair complexion and did not look Indian from the Tintypes and pictures I have seen. If there was a possibility they could have got "Indian Money" I am sure they would have put in Govt. Claims. The only claims they put into the Cherokee Indian Council in North Carolina were around the turn of the century and they were turned down. Descent passes through the Mother in the Tribe and the children are members of her clan to be raised by her brothers, so that may be something we have not properly considered. No Proof!! to authenticate the story.
