Groves / Henson / Maples

I’m seeking information on the family of John Robert Groves (B. 19 April 1888 / D. 19 May 1967), a veteran of World War I, who was married to Amanda Henson (B. 27 March 1896 / D. 23 May 1978), daughter of Victoria B. Henson Maples.
According to Federal censuses, they were both born in Georgia, and his occupations were listed as farmer and as working for the WPA.
After marrying, they lived below Atlanta, for a while, and then moved up to the mountains around Blue Ridge, Georgia. In 1920, they had a farm in Murray County, Georgia. In 1930, they had a farm just north of Dalton. By 1940, they were living in Dalton, where they continued to live until their deaths.
According to family lore, he and his sister, who lived in Texas, became estranged after their mother’s death. Supposedly, the Groves Family was quite wealthy, and reportedly came from "across the water". Family members speculate possibly from Ireland.
Can anyone help me out here?
