Alvin5 Maranville was the son of Roma4 Maranville who died 18 Feb 1907 in Calhoun Co, IA. Roma was the son of John3 DeMaranville [aka Maranville] & Sarah "Sally" Brown who were married 03 Dec 1819 in Jefferson, Ashtabula Co., OH.

There are only two more generations back to the immigrant ancestor: Charles2 DeMaranville & Deborah Lombard [aka Lumber] and Louis1 DeMaranville & Susanna Crapo.

John & Roma are briefly mentioned in a Hicks-Shaw-DeMaranville family reunion article published in the "Conneaut Reporter," 18 Sep 1889:

". . . John Maranville married Sally Brown and went to Michigan, and there lost his wife and most of his children. They were thought to be poisoned. Two boys were left, Ferris and Roma. I do not know if they are living.

"Uncle John [as every one called him] was a remarkable man in some things. He had been seen to pick up a sixpence from underneath his heel with his mouth; also bite in two a three penny nail. He had double teeth all around. He died about 1870."

If you're interested you can find the entire article posted on the DeMaranville GenForum Board and Ashtabula County GenWeb site.

In 1850, John DeMeranville [sic], 54, Farmer, b. New Hampshire, was enumerated in Conneaut, Ashtabula Co., OH, in the houshold of his brother and sister-in-law, Charles & Abigail [Clifford] DeMeranville [p. 322]. In 1870 [Jun 1], John, 76, was living in Kingsville, Ashtabula Co., OH, with his nephew, Alvin Fox, where he would die less than two months later.

From "Conneaut Reporter," 4 Aug 1870:

DIED. In Kingsville, July 24th, at the residence of Alvin Fox, of disease of the heart, John De Miranville, aged 77 years.

Feel free to write me direct if you want more information on the family. I do know a bit more than they did back in 1880.
