James&Tabitha Marchman, GA@1800
I am descended from Tabitha Marchman who came into Georgia around 1800. I believe one of her sons James was sheriff of Hancock County prior to 1806. My grandmother, Leila Marchman was born in Hancock County and raised in White Plains, Ga. in Green County. Tradition "holds" that this family came from Maryland; some say through way of North Carolina. Does anyone have proof as to the ancestry behind these first known Marchmans in Georgia? Were they Marchman or Marchmont? Has a definite Maryland connection been made?
