i have only just learnt of my connection with your family name. it seems that a james marjoram was married to one ann(amelia) swain, the daughter of henry & martha swain(nee farndell)(later martha finch) of maidstone. they married in the sep.q. of 1848(v5 p403) and had a son called henry spurrel marjoram. he was the informant on martha finch's death cert. and was described as her grandson. both were living at 20 scott. St. maidstone. free bmd has a james marjoram's death in dec.Q. 1902 V2a. p470 aged 83 in maidstone. the 1881 census shows a james and mary a. living in colchester, probably not by coincidence another of henry and martha swain children, henry thomas swain, moved to hythe hill, colchester 'c' 1860. it would be nice if anyone had any certificates which could verify all this. what is the origin of your surname?
