The Acara, or Tea Wreck as she's known, was British built in 1898. She was a steel hulled stream freighter owned by James Marke Wood of Liverpool. On March 1, 1902,
heading for New York from Britain the Acara encountered a gale and ground on the bar just East of Jones Inlet, Long Island. The crew was saved but the wreck broke in half
after two days in the pounding surf.
Any info on James Marke Wood?
