Sharon,
That is what I am trying to decipher...A Lloyd Markell in Flint has Samuel Markell listed among the children of William and Juliett Hodge Markell. In the 1870 Fenton Twp Genesee Co, MI Census Wm and Julia are listed with 18 yr old Samuel.Lloyd has Samuel's wife as Florence Root who was my great grandmother. Her husband was William Samuel Markell who my father and his sister remember him being called "Old Sam" a ner-do-well that no one in my family knows much about especially his roots. My Sam was born june 5 1878 and is too young to be Lloyd's Samuel.I know that he must connect with this family however because of the Markell spelling and the fact that they all lived in close proximity.I thought maybe he was the child of William Smith Markell, Samuel's older half brother who was living in Atlas Twp, Genesee Co during the 1870 census.Listed with wife Mary Jane Coon, he was 34 and a housepainter with no children listed at that time.
If you are researching in Michigan, I sure could use some help.Later census' like 1880 should solve the mystery.
Jeanette
