I've been reading over the Markowitz messages, and I'm getting goosebumps! Debi, I believe I can help you. I'm a Markowitz by marriage, and I knew Francis Markowitz. He lived in Allentown, PA before moving to Florida, his daughter's name was Lainie, and he passed away in the 1980's, not long after I was married. He had a brother named Samuel, who became a highly regarded rabbi who wrote many books. Debi, I'm almost certain we met, when you were small. Do you have a brother? Do you remember meeting a "bride" and trying on her veil? If I'm right, please, please email me privately!!!

The brothers' father was Adolph Markowitz, who came to the US from, I believe, Hungary, and became a peddlar in PA. Most of the family settled in Pottstown. Samuel Markowitz (born in 1892) married Jewel Klein; there are Klein relatives in Chicago and Phoenix. My father-in-law, Richard Markowitz, Sam's son, is particularly fond of Bobby Klein, from Chicago. Sam and Jewel also adopted a daughter named Ruth, who lives in Los Angeles. One of Adolph's siblings married a Cohen; the Cohen family lived for years in Pottstown, and are now in Florida, and lived in Pottstown and Philadelphia.

And to the writer whose last name is Marks -- forgive me, I can't scroll back to see without losing my note -- is your father's name Barry? We're cousins (well, by marriage, at least!), and we've met, too.
