Hi, Lynda,
Aunt Mary Marler Vaughn raised my grandmother's grandmother, Laura Louvenia Vaughn.Laura Vaughn was the second wife of William Henry Strong. She was a widow and her last name at the time of her marriage to Mr. Strong was Young.William Henry Strong's first wife wasNancy Catherine Marler, a sister of Aunt Mary Marler Vaughn's as well as Peter "David" Driskell Marler and your Sarah Matilda Marler. Also, Laura Louvenia Vaughn was a sister of Willis Vaughn, Aunt Mary Marler Vaughn's husband. Thus, my grandparents used to joke that they were related before they married, Ha!
As far as the middle name of George C. Marler, my grandfather told me that Cleveland was his middle name and that he had copied this information from Aunt Mary Marler Vaughn's Bible.I now believe that this was an error. We don't know what happened to the Bible, but there were other errors in my grandfather's transcription (ie. Matilda Driskell's maiden name was written "Griskell" which drove me "nuts" in my research for years!)As for Peter D. Marler's middle name, our line passed down "David", which I now believe was in error.Driskell as Peter's middle name seems to be correct according to the pension records.I still includethe "David" as that is how my family knew his name.
As for "Jim" Simmons, that is what my grandparents gave as his name.
Hope this makes some sense... I haven't done any Marler family research for about 6 months, but I've been working on this off and on since 1966.By the way, my grandparents are Roy Lee Marler and Annie Ruth Moon. They've been gone for almost 30 years, but they gave me a sense of family that continues today. The descendants of Benjamin Garfield Marler (a son of Peter "David" Driskell Marler are still in contact with each other even though we are scattered throughout the country now.
Thank you for responding to my posting.
