Marrons in Magheracloone Parish / Carrickmacross
I am researching the family of Judette (Judy, or perhaps Julia) Marron. She was born about 1801 in County Monaghan. She married James McMahon and had six children:Thomas (b. about 1835); Mary; James (b. 1839); Ann (b. 1837); Peter (b. 1841); and Patrick (b. 1845).I have found baptism records of the last three children in Magheracloone Parish.
This entire family came to the United States, in the 1850's and 1860's.Some of the family gave their place of origin as Carrickmacross, but that might have been because Carrickmacross was the nearest market town. They were farmers in Ireland and settled in rural Ohio and continued farming upon their arrival in the U.S.
According to the Griffiths Valuation, James and Judette had considerable land rented mostly from the Estate of Evelyn P. Shirley. They rented land at Crumlin, Drumboory, Killark, Mullylusty and Drumbracken. They came to the United States to join their children in 1861.
Does anyone have any record of a Judette or Julia Marron? Thanks!
