Paul, after going back over a vast amount of genealogy info I see the name situation a little clearer than a year ago.
Since surnames as we know them were not used back in his day I think perhaps Marcelis Janse Van Bommel was not a Marselis/Marcelis but a Jans or Janse from Bommel??
He was also known as Marselis Janse,
His children adopted the surname Marselis
For example his daughter Huybertie Marselis.
Then along came Ahaserus and John Marselis of NY and the rest is recorded history.
It would be so great to have DNA from all these "Marselis" lines to at least prove haplogroup.
