Sharon I agree that Vam Bommel may have been a place name.
There is good evidence as you know on Hendrick's place of origin.
I would like to take the DNA test and some other houghtaling/ Vandenbergh descendants and see.
we do cross paths with Jan Marselis's crew eventually but not very directly. But lacking the name of Hendrick Marsleis other daughter( who may or may not have born children) and any later child. The only link back to Hendrick would be through his daughters marriage to Mathais Coenradtsen Houghtaling
I note the following and wonder. hendrick Marselsi was also known as Hendrick Janz in a contract to purchase a yacht.
My own fore bearer Rykert Jans VD had a father who is identified as Jan Hendrickse VD but would have had another surname/patronomic in earlier records.
One of many theories I have considered would have him as a son born to Hendrick Marsleis. Thus accounting for my forebearer clsoe association with Houghtaling in Coxsackie.
I have id'd at least 7 comtemporary Jan Hendrickse's and have been avble to rule out several. '
But the a lot of room for speculation due to the loss of early DRCA records which would most likely provide the linkage.
But round about the point is: this might also serve to show
evidence of the pausibility of that theory.
There are nine baptismals of Rykert Jans children with sponsors. One of the later sponsors was the wife of Lucas Luycasse Houghkirk and is the only link to Jan Marselis
and that forebearer. Later generations marries into the line of Zytie Marselis and Van Zant.
I also wonder about Zytie as ac ommon name in both houghtaling and Marselis. It is relatively rare and could help show a link.
Via DNA 'cause I've had enough of theories without enough data though.
