I noticed your posting and you do not say where in NY you are looking.I have done (early years) Marshall family gene. for several years in NY and have not come across that name in the city.My ancestor was Alexander Marshall b. 1797 in Scotland and then was here in the US by 1810 with his family. But there aren't that many Alexander Marshall's in the early years of NY.In the 1830 census index there are only 2 Alex. Marshall's in NY listed. One (the NYC is mine)the other is in Washington county in Cambridge township/ pg 124.So if your Alexander and Deborah were together then, your Hailmer Marshall might show up on the the church records of that township. This is only a good theory, of course, if Alexander was the head of his household then and they were not living with another family that would have been listed as head of household.
The 1840 census however shows no Alexander in that township. There are two listed in the index, both are in NYC.One is mine, the other is listed as Alexander Marshall/ new your county/ pg 115/ new york.
Good luck to you.
