Howard Boswell 7/01/06
Howard, according to his headstone,Willis was born April 27 1796.The earliest record I know of him is his 1820 marriage to Sarah Whitelaw of Orange County,Virginia in Orange County.I've found a Mary Marshall in the 1810 and 1820 censuses for Albemarle and living with her was a white male who could have been Willis according to the age brackets of the censuses.I haven't found anything about Mary, but Willis and Sarah's eldest daughter was named Mary Ann Elizabeth.Sarah's mother was named Elizabeth so I'm gussing Willis mother may have been named Mary or Mary Ann.Willis and Sarah's eldest child was a son named William Alexander.Sarah had a brother named Alexander but I've long wondered if Willis might be a nickname for William,as Wiley may have been.Willis might also have been a family surname.
