Mayflower Martell Connection
Here is the connection to Absalom Martell of Cape Breton, N.S., my mother's grandfather.
Absalom Martell, Glace Bay, N.S. 1847/1920
Thomas Martell, Mira,N.S., 1823/1893. His parents were: Anthony Martell, Mira, N.S., 1782/1854, and Lucinda Holmes, born 1786 in Heartland, Vermont, and died 1872 in Mira, Cape Breton, N.S.
It is the Holmes line to follow now. Her father is Stetson Holmes of Pembroke, Mass., 1753/1824. He died in Homeville, N.S., He was married to Anna Shurtleff of Southboro, Mass.1756/1841
Next is William Holmes, of Marshfield, Mass.1679/1760.
His father was Josiah Holmes who was married to Hannah Samsom the daughter of Henry Samson of the Mayflower!
Returning to Lucinda Holmes; the history of the Holmes family and the Shurtleff family is well documented as is the Samson's history because from Henry.
Absalom Martell was married to a lady name of Agnes Lewis. These Lewis lines are still in Cape Breton. Agnes is descended from Henry Lewis and Catherine Elizabeth Boutillier. He was a returning Loyalist.
If anyone has any information they wish to share on these families, let me know. I know that the Martell family is from the Lyon area of France but have little information on that time, so help here is appreciated.
