Conrad Martens in Venice, 1739-1786
The information on my Martens ancestry came from the Martens Stammatafel file in the Staatsarchiv, Hamburg. Conrad Martens, my gggg granfather, son of Conrad Martens and Elizabeth Weber, was born 1704 in Hamburg. He married Maria Doran, an Englishwoman, and went to Venice where he was the Danish Consul from 1739 until his death in 1786. He had 6 children among them were sons, Johann Gotthard, Wilhelm Conrad, and Christoph Heinrich aka Cristofero Enrico and Christopher Henry. Johann returned to Germany and married Margaretha Elizabeth Luetkens. Wilhelm remained in Venice, had two wives, and 14 children. He continued as Danish Consul there. Christopher Henry, my ancestor, went to England and became a merchant there. He married Rebecca ///// and had sons,John William Martens, Henry, and Conrad.Would like to contact descendants of Johann Gotthard Martens and Wilhelm Conrad.
