Many years ago in an old book re: NM history and early families, this quote from Jose Martin, Alcade of Abiqui, father of Severino Martin, "that he didn't know his ancestors, who had probably arrived from Spain years before. However, Jose Martin added that he had been baptised, as were his children, as well as any Indian servants in his household." In recent years I have seen claims that two different M.S. were his father. I just saw a pedigree file listing Blas M.S. and Rosa Vargas Machuca as his parents. Since Maria Micaela Valdez was the great granddaughter of Blas M.S. there must have been a great discrepancy in the age of her husband, Jose Martin, who then would have been the brother of Pedro Jose Martin who was Micala Valdez' grandfather. Sort of like "I married my own grandpa or grandpa's brother. LD
