My name is Cheryl Peterson, maiden name is Nelson. My paternal grandmother's name was Blanche Martinie. She served in the Navy, as did my father. She lived quite some time in the Chicagoland area. My mother divorced my father before I was born, and I have never met my real father so I have very little information about my his side of the family. But I have always been curious to know more. My grandmother married John Nelson and they had 2 sons and 1 daugher: Raymond, Trueman (my father) and Marie and I think they were born & raised in the Urbana, IL area. My mother said that side of the family was french, but Martinie sounds Italian to me. So I'm not sure, but I have heard that the Martinie family came from Tolono, IL. So I guess I'm looking for more information: what nationality does the Martinie name come from, does anybody know who my grandmother was, and who her mother was, etc. Any information would be most interesting to me. Thank you!
