Hi Art,
I have some information that was sent to me regarding a significant role Malaca played in the founding of the 2nd Baptist church. The church minutes of the weekly covenant meeting of the church cover the period from its founding in Dec. 1807 through July 1812.The minutes show that Malaca Mason was instrumental in leading the congregation from the initial break with their previous congregation in Norway, through his own exile from the congregation four years later. The congragation withdrew their watch care because of the manner in which he sold a note of a fellow parishioner.
I don't know what happened after that, but I do know that Martins family were Methodist, but when he died he requested a Baptist minister to read at his funeral.
You might want to try the index, transcribed by Greg Mason at http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyherkim/newport/bapindex.htmlhttp://www.rootsweb.com/~nyherkim/newport/bapindex.html
Hope this helps.
