Hi Jackie,
Sorry, but I overlooked your 23 Feb 2004 posting on the Genealogy.com website. I sent you an email message on 13 Mar 2004 but received no reply. I then forgot about the post until recently when I came across it again!
As I may have mentioned earlier, we have tried for years to locate the parents of my g-g-grandmother, Judith (Juda or Judy) MASON BEST, or for that matter, any information on that family. Juda was supposedly born ca 1800 in Virginia and died after 1860 in Marshall Co., MS. She married Abijah BEST ca 1823, we think in SC, but have never found any record to confirm it. I had hoped that a MASON descendant might be able to resolve this problem.
I'm pretty certain that Juda is buried in the BEST cemetery adjacent to the old Abijah BEST farm, but there are only a couple of tombstones still remaining, and Juda's in not among them. She was listed in the 1860 Census of Marshall Co., MS but not in the 1870 Census, so presumably, she died before the 1870 Census was taken.
Do your records identify a Judith (or Judy or Juda) MASON, born ca 1800? When I found this William F. MASON in the 1850 Census of Marshall Co., MS, he was living very near my Abijah BEST, and thought that he might be my Juda's father.
Bill
