Looking for info/connections about Thomas Mason and Martha Ann Heaton; I have them being married on Oct.14,1867. Martha b.abt.1849 in upper Canada, her parents Peter Heaton and Lousia nee Richley.
Thomas and Anne (Heaton)Mason sailed on the ship Adamant from London July 14, 1875 and arrived in Bluff December 02, 1875.

This voyage happened to be the most eventful in the Adamant's history, it even made the Invercargill newspaper ( you may be able to have access to that since you are in NZ) The captain,Thomas Burch, was reported to be a heavy drinker. He kept the ship sailing about the coast of Brazil for three weeks and then on September 17, 1875 he ran the ship onto a sandbank. The Adamant was refloated a few hours later. The passengers then sent a requisition to the ships Surgeon Superintendent:
" We the undersigned emigrants on board the ship "Adamant", do earnestly request that the Captain give up the authority he now holds on board the above-mentioned ship, to the !st Mate, before proceeding any further on our journey; as we consider our lives in peril, through the ship being run agound about 10 o'clock P.M. Sept.16th 1875. And likewise through the intemperate habits of the Captain, Thomas Burch. And if the Captain refuses to act in accordance with this requisition, we desire to be put in at the nearest port.

Thomas was one of the men who signed this requisition. Chief Officer Tupman Highman took over the Captain's duties for the rest of the voyage. About six weeks before the ship arrived at Bluff, Captain Burch died and was buried at sea. By the time the Adamant landed they were almost out of all of the ships provisions.

Other children they had:Richard Mason b.abt.1875,Molly Mason b.abt.1877, Lou Mason b.abt.1878, Ellinor Ann Mason b.January 01,1882, Charles Mason b.abt.1883, George Culff Mason b.abt.1885, Violet Mason b.abt. 1889. Ten kids in total.
