A lot of you have been emailing the question re the distribution of Matchetts here in Ulster. I have that for the period 1848-1864. Ulster counties of
ARMAGH-22 MATCHETT HOUSEHOLDS
ANTRIM- 6 MATCHETT HOUSEHOLDS
DOWN-10 MATCHETT HOUSEHOLDS
CAVAN-1 MATCHETT HOUSEHOLD
CITY OF BELFAST-1 MATCHETT HOUSEHOLD.
IN IRELAND THERE WAS ONLY ONE MATCHETT HOUSEHOLD AND THAT WAS IN DUBLIN AND WAS A DRUMCREE, COUNTY ARMAGH MATCHETT FAMILY WHO WERE TRAINING TO BE CLERGY IN TRINITY COLLEGE.THE ANTRIM,BELFAST AND DOWN MATCHETTS HAVE PROVEN CO.ARMAGH ORIGINS BUT THE ONE IN CAVAN IS AS YET UNPROVEN TO BE OF OUR OWN CO ARMAGH FAMILIES. HOPE THIS HELPS.
TYRONE
