Hi Stephanie,
I have been in contact with a Sue Smith - AUS Matchetts - and she gave me a list of early Matchetts Cloncore Births & Marriages - have found my family line here.James Matchett m. Ellen Metcalf - Children Mary m. John Smith - child born NZ Thomas Smith may have been more but haven't discovered them yet; children of James and Ellen cont'd William John Matchett; Rachel Matchett, Eliza Matchett and Robert David Matchett Snr m. Martha Jane Walker Pukekohe - this is my line.Details can be found on www.genesreunited.com for Janet Margaret Cooke b. 1959
I don't know of David Benson or his Son Hadleigh, if you do can you send my details re www.genesreunited.com to them and or I can send my email later to you.
As far as I have gathered there are two lines of Matchetts who came out to NZ the- Cloncore Co Armagh group - Mary and Robert David Matchett only and a second group which ended up in Otago South Island- records show this group lived and are buried there. Here are collection of names from the later group b. around the mid 1800's based on details from NZSG Burial locator:
James Matchett b.1849 d. 1935 Balclutha
Sarah Ann Matchett b. 1849 d. 1922 Kaitanga Nth Cemetary
Thomas John Matchett b. 1861 d. 1880 Riverton Cemetary
George Phillip Matchett b. 1861 d. 1934 Opotiki
Catherine Matchett b.1875 d. 1934 Balclutha
Arthur Matchett b. 1882 d. 1947 Balclutha
There are other's but appear to be the next generation down.
I have come across another group of early settlers and the name David Matchett appears - he was a Minor in Denniston. It appears from my research that this group included a number of relatives who all came out to mine and may have come from England.David Matchett was a pte in the 3rd Waikato Militia Maori Wars around 1860.
If you think that one of these individuals might be a Derrycaw matchett, let me know and I'll find out more specifics for you.
Cheers Janet Margaret Cooke
