May I respectfully submit the name of Benjamin Franklin Matchett. Born in 1817 in England, his family later emigrated to Canada, and then to Indiana in time for the Civil War. Benjamin served in the Union Army during the war as a spy in the Kentucky-Tennessee area. After the war he became a Christian minister and started numerous churches across the central United States. In the 1880s he was elected to the Kansas Legislature as the representative from Osborne County, Kansas, and was elected Speaker of the House Pro-Tem as being a minister he was the only person the other representatives would trust. He passed away in 1929 and in 1997 was named a member of the Osborne County Hall of Fame.
