William Matchett, thought to be the son of John Matchett, married Anne Wells in Duplin County, North Carolina, on February 27, 1796. The Matchett family was part of the large Scotch-Irish (Northern Ireland Protestants) settlement in Duplin County. They were probably the parents of at least four sons.
....1. Wells - born abt 1799 in Duplin County, North Carolina and died abt 1855 in Irwin County, Georgia. Married Susan Williams, born 1807 in North Carolina and died 1886 in Sumter County, Florida. (My ancestors)
....2. John H. - born abt 1801. married Lydia. They lived in Marion County, Florida.

Most of the family migrated to Marion and Sumter Counties, Florida, and some later to the Tampa area. Several families including the Matchett, Collins and Merritt familes were part of this migration. The families settled in the Webster/Linden area and some are buried in the Linden Cemetery. The national archives has military records for William that include his marriage to Nancy.
