As a MATHERS, if originating from the North East of Scotland, one's name stems from the estate of MATHERS, near St. Cyrus, in Kincardineshire. This estate was owned by the Barclay Clan for 11 generations, from 1351 to 1660. Does anyone know of a definate link, and how the surname then came into common use?
