pronouncation of the name

I would like to know if the way that the mathers name is showing is pronounced as a short a or long a such as: Short a like Jerry Mathers or long like the letter a? My name is pronounce like the letter a and most of the people I talk to assume that it's short like Jerry Mathers. I have researched a bit of my family tree and I know we are from the Barclay clan and that we were lowlanders in Scottland. If we are one of the same and the pronouncation is just different in Canada verses the US I would like to know.
