This is an update to the information Joe posted.
William Matlack did not have a middle name of Hancock. When I first got interested in genealogy I had a family history put together by two of my great aunts. I think somewhere along the way Mary Hancock's surname got added as Williams middle name. This was a mistake and should be eliminated.
My great aunts came across the storry of William being the son of Isaac Matlack. Since then I have found an expanded version of this ancestry that is full of errors. It was an attempt to claim royle ancestry as well as a link to Oliver Cromwell. A couple hours research proved there were numerous errors in this account and I have completely disregarded it.
Joe. Please remove this acoount from your records.
William Matlack/Matlock, baptised June 1650 in Cropwell Bishop, was the son of George Matlock and Jane Hall who were married November 7, 1636 in Cropwell Bishop.
I recently found out that the LDS have microfilm of the parish records from Cropwell Bishop. I haven't had a chance to look at them yet but they might have some interesting information.
I see where Joe has a copy of the agreement or deed between Tallaca, Lenepe Indian Chief, and William Matlack. I also have a copy of this document. I have a copy of the deed for the same land from the records of the West Jersey Proprietors. I have posted both documents on the Matlock Census site, www.geocities.com/ba0442000/, under the Land Grant and Deed section, New Jersey.
