I found information on Clarkson Matlack today while researching my great grandfather John Gleason at the Burlington County Library. Strange how these things work.
The following entries from the records of the Moorestown, New Jersey, Friends Meeting Records was printed on page 140 of Burlington County Cemetery Records V. 5 Lumberton Methodist to Mt. Laurel Eldridge.
277. John Matlack died 6th mo 8th 1869 in his 73d yr. (John Matlack was born 12-6-1790, son of Joseph Matlack and Anna (Shute) Matlack. He married 5 mo. 1?, 1815 Julia Ann Lippincott and had four children:- 1. Martha L. Matlack b 12-11-1815 d. 4-6-1873 married David Lippincott 2. Anna S. Matlack b. 9-19-1818 d. 1-26-1878 died unmarried; 3. Clarkson Matlack b.2-18-1821 d. 4-18-1889 married Rachel M. Haines4. Rebecca Matlack b. 2-19-1827 d. 4-18-1884 unmarried.)
278. Julia Ann Matlack Died 5th mo 15th 1868 in her 73rd year. (Julia Ann Matlack wife of John Matlack was born 2 mo, 28, 1796 daughter of Thomas and Abigail Lippincott. She was married 3 Mo. 23, 1815 and had four children.)
Please note the different dates of the marriage in these two entries. As far as the month goes, it is easy to confuse 5 and 3 when reading old hand written records. I have no explaination for 1? and 23. ( I am working from a transcript that appears to have been copied many times. The ? is an unreadable didgit.)
Another thing with John Matlack. 1869 minus 73 is 1796. This does not agree with a birth date of 1790. No explaination other them more problems reading the hand writing.
