Donna
I think you need to start with Alberta and work you way back.
I found George and Alberta in the 1900 census in Philadelphia, Pa.
George Hartzell – Born November 1865
Alberta Hartzell – Born May 1866
George Hartzell – Born September 1887
I found this record in the 1880 census in Philadelphia.
James C. Matlack, age 38, born Philadelphia, Cabinet Maker
Mary Matlack, age 36, born Philadelphia
Alberta Matlack, age 14, Born Ohio
I next went to this website which is free and has Philadelphia death records.
http://www.familysearchlabs.org/http://www.familysearchlabs.org/
It is free.Click on Record Search
This is one of the records

This appears to be Alberta’s father. The birth date matches his age in the 1880 census and the occupation, Cabinet Maker, is a match. If you go to the website you can see a copy of the actual record.
The rest of this is from a small book, Col. Timothy Matlack, Patriot and Soldier, by Dr. A. M. Matlack.
William Matlack, son of Timothy Matlack and Ellen Yarnell, born 1759, died 1797, married Hannah Carmalt March 22, 1787 at First Baptist Church, Philadelphia.
James Matlack, son of William Matlack and Hannah Carmalt, born February 14, 1791, died June 24, 1849 married Elizabeth Ristine.
James Matlack, son of James Matlack and Elizabeth Ristine, born October 8 1817, married Rachel Pidgeon.James and Rachel are the parents of the James in the death record.
A more complete search of the web site with the death record may turn up more records of value.
The genealogical records of Thomas Chalkley Matlack may also be of benefit to you.He was a cousin of Dr. A. M. (Asa Matlack) Stackhouse and they used the same information.Chalkley’s records are much more extensive. You can order microfilm of Chalkley’s records from the Family History Center.
