HI Dick
I agree with you on this one: I suspect that there is a missing generation between Joseph and Sinai. Unfortunately I can't solve that puzzle for you.
Here is what I do have on other Mattes in Lowell from Sinai & Georgianna Charron. Please keep in mind that these are not in my Matte family line, but information I came across while doing my research.
Children of Sinai & Georgianna Charron who were married Oct 11, 1880 at St Jean Baptiste Church in Lowell, MA:
Gedeon Matte age 23, married Marie Louise Elliott age 22 in Lowell in 1913
Elie Matte age 20 married Louise Pellerin age 20 in Lowell in 1905 - I have all of his family listed if you are interested.
George Matte m. Georgianna Warner in 1901
Edmond Matte no age listed, married Marie Amanda Cantin in 1913
Walter J. Matte, no age listed married Marie B.C. Hamilton in 1917
Jeffrey C. Matte age 23, married Marie R.F. Prince age 21 in 1915
Now I also have an Ulric Matte married to Lucie Carignan in 1899 but I am not sure if he is one of Sinai's brother. I suspect he is another Matte line
Best I can tell is that there were 3 different Matte families in Lowell during that time period. Those being Sinai Matte, Damase Matte (my g-grandfather), and Ulric Matte.Interestingly enough all of these Mattes orignally came from Portneuf County in Quebec which is where Nicolas Matte settled - and all are descendants of Nicolas. By the mid 1800s many had migrated to other parts of Canada and into the US.
A woman in Calgary Alberta Canada is a descendant of Ulric and has been in touch with me to share her info. If you send me your email address I would be happy to forward to you the information she sent me about Ulric Matte.

A cousin who is at least 10 times removed, but a Matte at heart always.
