Looking for relatives of George Matus, b. Lithuania, c. 1870
Good Day,
I am new to this site and have some questions. My name is Charles Matus (a shortened version of Matusiewicz)My grandfather came to the USA in the late 1800's and shortened his name upon entry. His first name was George (or Jerges,sp.?).He spent some time in Pennsylvania, but finally settled in Arkansas, near Fort Smith, a little town by the name of Denning. In the late 1930's he moved to San Bernardino, California.I know that his family was a landed family in Lithuania, his father lost most of the land due to gambling and drinking, his two uncles taught him English, the US Constitution, and paid his passage to America. He fathered ten children with Ida Belle Randolph Matus. One of those children is my father Charles Benson Matus (deceased).
Does any of this information seem familiar to anyone on this family web site?
Are their other members of the Matusiewicz family with the shortened name of Matus?
Pleas email me with any information you may wish to share.
Thank You,
Charlie Matus
