Hi Margaret,

I was most interested to see your post dated 30 March 2001 re the Maudsleys of Slaidburn. These people fit into my extended family.

My maiden name was Maudsley. I live in Queensland, Australia - my Maudsley ancestors having immigrated here in 1866.

I have done quite a bit of work on the Maudsley family in Yorkshire. Most seem to fit together very neatly and almost all descend from Henry & Grace (nee Carr) Maudsley.

The four generations you mention in your post fit into the database of related Maudsleys I have compiled. I have only one discrepancy. That is for Henry Maudsley, bp.1725/1726 Clapham. I have his burial listed as 26 Dec 1780 at Woolwich, Kent. This data was given to me by two other people, so I cannot vouch for it, but I would be interested in investigating further.

I would be interested to know more of the Maudsleys of Slaidburn and how they relate to the Franklins.

I have a web page outlining my Maudsley interests at:

Pam Cooper (formerly Maudsley)
