Hi Carol.

I've never been up to the village of our name, but what I do know is the the so-called Mawdsley Hall is in fact the local town hall. Whether it was ever the centre of a Mawdsley estate no-one I've been in touch with seems to know. There were some Mawdsley estates dotted over the UK - I've heard of one near Liverpool and another in Essex. I doubt they were very large estates, because I've always doubted that the Mawdsley family were ever a great gentry family. Shame that.

I can't say much more. Good luck in your research.

Oli.
