Sorry Carol, I got that all wrong.

Mawdesley Hall is still standing, and I believe part of it to be a hotel now. You find it marked on most Lancashire maps. The village of Mawdesley is mid-way between Ormskirk and Chorley, just south of Preston. Like I said though, I've never made it up there myself. And I haven't found anyone who knew anyone who ever lived in the hall.

Juding by the size of the village, the Mawdesley estate there couldn't have been very impressive.
