My Name is Sara Mawyer Deal - born 1956 in Martha Jefferson Hospital, Charlottesville Va., to Granville Alfred Mawyer Jr., and wife Elizabeth Moon Mawyer. Dad's nickname was Buddy - born July 6,1929 - died May 12, 1986 in Charlottesville. Buried in Holly Hills Cemetery on Hwy. 29 N. in Charlottesville. His father's name was Granville, Sr., married to Gertrude Darnell Mawyer - both deceased. Buried in the Episcopal Church (very old church - I believe my grandparents were among the first members of the congregation) Cemetery on Rio Road, Charlottesville. Dad's sister's name is Evelyn Mawyer Perry - still living in Charlottesville. (She has no children.) My paternal grandfather had (I think) three or four brothers - none of whom I have ever known by name, as they all passed before my time. All lived in Albermarle County, I think.
In addition to Granville Jr., and Evelyn, my paternal grandparents also had a child, Daniel Byrd Mawyer, who passed away at the age of three and is buried in the old church cemetary beside my granparents.
My dad and mom were married in July, 1949 in Charlottesville and had four children: Robert Granville Mawyer, age 49 and living in Martinsville, Va.; myself, Sara Mawyer Deal, currently residing in Huson, N.C.; John Mason Mawyer, deceased at the age of 33, died in same hospital in which he was born, Martha Jefferson in Charlottesville; and Anthony Richard Mawyer(born in Martinsville, Va.), age 32, residing in Alexander County, N.C. All of us with the exception of the late John (who was single) are married without children.
My mother is 69 and currently residing in Hickory, N.C.
I am interested in learning more about our family tree but know nothing much of it. Is it possible that one of my grandfather's brothers may have been related to your family?
