Hi Candice,

My maiden name is Maxie. My father was George Maxie, he is deceased now. I wanted to know more about the name as well. It was said, by my father, to be of the Black Foot Indian tribe and means 'a long winter'. Grandaddy was of the Black Creek and Creole group out of Louisiana. They came to Arkansas and settled down near the Elaine, AR area. Most of the older Maxie on my family side are dead - that is the men who carry the name. I hope this helped. By the way, daddy loved fire-water - it is what killed him to his last day.
