I have some info on Maxie's from Clay co. Ky. (Manchester) My GGF was Joe Maxie born 1865, married Elizabeth Hollingsworth later shortened to Hollin. My GF was John D Maxie, also born in Manchester. He married Mamie Depew. My dad also was born in Manchester. He married Irene Philpot. I was born in and live in Indiana. I have a bunch of info on the Hollin, Depew, and Philpot lines but nothing past my GGF on the Maxie side. My Sister says my GF's birth certificated had his name spelled Maxey but he always used Maxie. There is a hugh Maxey Family Genealogy Forum you can search around on. I think from what I've read the name was originally Maxey. Named after a village in England. When they Left to settle other lands they would be greeted as John of Maxey etc. hence the name. Also in the 17 and 1800's many people couldn't read or write. When they got married the preachers would sigh the mariage certificate the way they thought it should be spelled.
