McAlinden / Warner (Parramatta, NSW) - The longest of longshots!!!
Hi all, this is my first post on this forum.
I have been researching my family tree for abour a year now, but I have very few living relatives to whom I can turn for help, and almost no documentary evidence!
As such, almost everything I have at the moment has come from online research, combined with just a very few half-remembered family myths and stories.
My mother was born Joan Warner in 1931 here in the UK, and was one of three daughters to (my grandparents) Samuel Dixon Warner and Florence May Ireson.
I think I may have discovered a previously unknown sibling of Samuel Dixon Warner who may have emigrated to New South Wales, namely Kathleen (born abt 1909).
I should stress that I have no direct evidence for this.
Even so... this is what has led me to post this longshot message.
During the 1970s my mother, Joan, still living in Doncaster in the UK, received occasional mail from a pen-friend in Parramatta, called "Johnny McAlinden". (I have guessed the spelling).
Unfortunately, I have know idea if Johnny was simply a pen-friend, or if he had any family connection to the Warners - or indeed anything at all other than his name and town of residence.
Sadly, my mum succumbed to illness in 1986, and I have no family documents of any kind with which to add any more padding to this story, and any correspondence seems to have long sice been lost.
If you think that you are Johnny, or that you know or knew Johnny, I would be very interested to hear from you.
(For information, I no longer use my father's surname, so do not be put off if this does no look familiar.)
Thanks
Dave
