Hi Lynda
Thanks for replying to my message.I have no info. re: any of my ancestors moving to Oregon.I believe that my GGGG grandfather, Alexander McAlpin, was born in South Carolina around 1764.In 1787, he married Jane (aka Ginny or Jane Ginny) Farnsworth, who was born in Virginia.Their children were Margaret, Dyannah, Robert, Henry, John, David, Nancy, Sarah, and George.Henry was, I think, born around 1791 or 1793 in Knoxville, TN.He married Elizabeth Farnsworth (born 1789) in 1812.Their children were John, Alexander, Robert, Mary, Margaret, Daniel, Solomon, Nancy, and David.Alexander (my GG grandfather) was born in 1815 in Greene Co., TN, and married Margaret Williams, who was born in Indiana, in 1838.Their daughter, Nancy McAlpin, was my great-grandmother.I believe Nancy was born in Indiana, but I don't know when the family migrated to Iowa.Nancy married Richard Pettinger in Iowa, and my grandmother, Amy, was born across the Missouri River in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. But she grew up in Glenwood (Mills County), Iowa and graduated from high school there. That's also where she married my grandfather, Harry Stewart. They had 4 children there. The youngest of them was my father, Laurence. When he was a year old, in 1907, the family moved to California.Margaret Williams McAlpin was widowed at a fairly young age, married John Carter, and had more kids. She and John lived in Iowa, and Margaret died there. That's about all I know.Does this correspond with any info. you have?I've never been to Iowa but would like to go there sometime to do some genealogy research - maybe when I retire.I hope to learn more then.
