My grandmother is Jean McAuley Martin, and she has done extensive research on our McAuley family roots. James McAuley was born in or around 1828, and was the youngest in his family. We really know nothing of his family besides the fact that they left him with an aunt in Ireland, while they traveled to New South Wales, (1837-38) Australia, to hopefully start a better life. They sent some money to him, so that someday he could join the rest of the family. It is known that he never went to Australia, but instead came to America in 1850. Just curious to know more of his family.
