Charles - My great-uncle, Denis McAuliffe, was born in Newmarket in 1890 or 1892.His parents were Jerimiah McAuliffe and Margaret Power. He had several sisters and brothers. Coincidently, my uncle was also in the Fighting 69th as a Sergeant in D Company. He lost his leg in the Meuse-Argonne Campaign. When he returned from France, he also worked as an elevator operator, for the Tully Construction Company in Manhattan. On his sister's baptismal certificate from St Mary's in Newmarket, it lists the sponsors as Thomas Sheehan and Honorah "Cushen." There's lots of similarities here, I'm wondering if we have any connection. Hope to hear from you. Regards. Rich.
