I show that David Grahm MacBain married Mary Arthurson in 1805. Mary was born in Lerwick, Shetland, Scotland. David was in His Majesties Army when he married Mary. He was shown to be in the 10th Royal Veteran Corp. in 1809; a Corporal in the Royal Civilians in 1811; 10th Veteran Battalion 1812 (shown as a Sutler) & 1817;in 1819 he is shown as late of the 4th Royal Veteran Battalion and a Pensioner of Chelsea Hospital. He died in 1834. He held a license for a House of Public entertainment and on May 25, 1835 Mary obtained a license for keeping a House of Public Entertainment in the parish of St. Ambroise, District of Quebec City. Mary Arthurson remarried in 26 Mar, 1836 to William Knox. She is shown with this husband, living with her son and family in the 1851 Census. This family is quite extensive. Most of them are in the Valcartier area until they had to move and some went to the Montreal area.
I know that David's son, William, who married Jennet Ann Brown, had a daughter named Marion Poppe/Pappe who married Charles Jack. Do you have the information for Mary Poppe showing their marriage, instead of Mary Arthurson?
I am an associate genealogist for Clan MacBean, Inc. and I am responsible for the McBean/McBain's in Ontario, Quebec, and Michigan (and where ever they lead me) and would like to be sure that I have the correct information. Would love to hear more.
