George McBain migrt to Aust 1850-70s

I am looking for ancestors of George McBain who migrated to Williamstown, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, in the latter half of the Nineteenth Century, from Scotland. The only reference I have found so far is his marriage to Emily Murray in Williamstown, in 1877, here in the records, it simply states that he was born in Scotland and that his parents are unknown, or not recorded. Emily Murray herself was born in Williamstown. George had six children; William Murray (1878), Emily Elizabeth (1882), Janet Alice (Elexia) (1885), George Roberts McBain (1891), Hannah Murray (1893). The "Roberts" might be a clue!

George may have come to Australia as early as the 1840s, but since his parents are not mentioned in the record of his marriage, it would seem that they were not with him at that stage.

Thanks

Nigel McBain (great-great grandson)
