I have a William McCalip who married Sally Kelser m 1823. Their children would have been born in the time frame for the William you seek but I have first names for only 3 of the 6 children: Huston abt 1827, Nancy jane b abt 1828, and Delila b abt 1831 all in Indiana. However, the 1850 IL Madison County Census lists a William McCalep 25 born in Scotland wife Alice 23 born in
Ireland. I know the wife's name does not match, but the age and birth place match very well. I think I would look carefully at that William McCalep. If you confirm that is the William you want, you should be able to find naturalization papers or immigration lists on him. Look for marriage records and birth records in IN and IL. Also, I found members of my Indiana McCalip family under the following spellings, McCalib, McCallip, McCalop, McCalup,McCaleb, and furthest back in NC as McAlup. Let me know what you discover; I am interested in all these McCalip, etc., folks.
