Searching for the parents of James McCallister, b. 1812, Henry Co, Kentucky. About 1840, James married Freelove Butterfield b. NY abt 1815.
1850 census [sp McAlister]: Jefferson Co, IN, age 38. (At that time, Henry County extended to the Ohio River, and Jefferson Co, IN was directly across the river.)
1860 census: Morgan Co, IN, age 48.
1870 census [sp McAlister]: Johnson Co, IN, age 58.
Published obituary: "Mr. McAllister was an intelligent and enterprising man, was a school teacher, served as justice of the peace and was also a contractor. He assisted in the construction of the canal from Broad Ripple, and was a contractor in the construction of the old Madison Railroad from Franklin to Martinsville, and was well known in connection with public matters. He was a Whig in politics, later a Republican. For many years he was a worthy and active member of the Christian Church. His children were: Joanna, wife of Mr. Henry B. Taylor;James [sic: this should have said John], who died in Kentucky, a soldier in the 70th Ind. V. I.;Mary P., Mrs. McFarland; Martha, Mrs. M. Wentz; George, of Arkansas; and [James], a son who died in infancy."
