I'm one of Viola Jane MCCARRELL's great granddaughters. Right now I'm working under the hypothesis that William McCarrell's wife Elizabeth's maiden name is LACY, and that she was born in Logan Co., KY to Burley Lacy, Jr. and Mary (Polly) Rome. My mother left notes showing that the name was Lacy, and the following information suggests that it's correct. In the 1860 census, E. McCarrell (Ester Emoline, shown to be Evaline in 1850 census) and Jacob McCarrell, two of the known 6 children of William and Elizabeth, are shown living with J. R. Lacy in Wood Co. In the 1850 census, J.R. is shown to be from Logan Co., KY. In family trees I've found, J. R. has a sister Elizabeth the right age for Elizabeth McCarrell, and other folks' research show that she married a M. A. McCarroll and died in Wood Co., TX

However, I have no proof. I found this latter connection only last week and haven't gotten very far. Also, I've had no luck figuring out William's origins. There are many McCarrells in eastern Tennessee, but I've found no connection between them and William.

If you have further information or discover anything, I'm very interested!

Joyce
