Hello Cousin,
I have quite a bit of info regarding the McCaulley side of our family. I have been researching now for about 15 years.
e-mail me direct if you want at mccaulley@consolidated.net. Anna Lou grew up around Gravelswitch, Kentucky in Casey, County. Grandpa McCaulley grew up in Walland County, Tennessee in the Cades Cove area by the Smokey Mountains. I still havent figured out where or how they met. Dad said they traveled through Illinois on their way to Iowa. I have lots of info on the military records of Edward and some on John Henry and Ernie about their WWII service. THe oldest person I have found so far is Mahaley Shook from the early 1800's. I believe she was Williams mother. There are alot of Shooks in North Carolina. If the McCaulleys came from Scotland they most likely landed in Cape Fear North Carolina and moved inland. There were a bunch of ships from Scotland that brought them over after the Highland clearances of 1748. I have researched some of the ships manifests but I am at the point where I would need to start traveling to the areas.Hope to hear from you.
